PADI courses in Trincomalee are run by DiveKing, a PADI authorised dive centre on Sri Lanka's east coast. Courses available include Discover Scuba Diving (1 day, no certification), PADI Open Water Diver (3–4 days, certifies to 18 metres), PADI Advanced Open Water (2 days, extends to 30 metres), PADI Rescue Diver (4–5 days), and PADI Divemaster (the first professional level). All PADI certifications earned in Trincomalee are internationally recognised and valid at dive centres worldwide. Training dives take place primarily at Pigeon Island Marine National Park, where visibility averages 15–25 metres and conditions are suitable for learning. Equipment is included in all courses.
PADI is the world's largest and most widely recognised scuba diving training organisation. A PADI certification earned at DiveKing in Trincomalee is valid at dive centres from Thailand to the Red Sea — it's not a local qualification.
We run courses from complete beginner level right through to Divemaster. Our instructors have been teaching in Trincomalee for years, and most of our training dives happen at Pigeon Island — a protected marine national park where conditions are reliable and the underwater scenery is well worth experiencing.

Why Get Your PADI in Trincomalee?
Most PADI courses are completed in fairly unremarkable conditions — a training pool, a murky bay, or a generic coral reef. In Trincomalee, your qualifying ocean dives happen at Pigeon Island, where visibility runs 15–25 metres and you'll likely see blacktip reef sharks and hawksbill turtles during the course.
That matters practically too — it means you finish your course having already dived a proper reef, not just a training ground. Most students feel more confident and capable when they leave than students who qualified somewhere less interesting.
Questions About PADI Courses
Is DiveKing a PADI authorised dive centre?
Yes. DiveKing is a PADI authorised dive centre in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. All our instructors are PADI certified and our courses follow the full PADI standards — which means your certification is internationally recognised and valid at dive centres worldwide.
What is the difference between Discover Scuba and the Open Water course?
Discover Scuba Diving is a one-day introductory experience — you'll have one guided ocean dive with an instructor, but you won't receive a certification. The PADI Open Water Diver course takes 3–4 days and results in a full certification that lets you dive independently to 18 metres anywhere in the world.
How quickly can I complete the PADI Open Water course?
The standard Open Water course takes 3 days minimum. If you complete the online theory (PADI e-learning) before you arrive, you can focus entirely on in-water training and sometimes finish in 3 days rather than 4.
Why learn to dive in Trincomalee specifically?
Pigeon Island — where we conduct most open water training dives — is one of the clearest, calmest dive sites in Sri Lanka. It's a marine national park, so the reef and fish life are well-protected. Learning here means your qualifying dives actually go somewhere interesting, rather than a generic training bay.
