Diving Courses in Trincomalee

By J Rockshan, PADI Master Instructor

Learning to dive in Trincomalee means doing your first open water dives at Pigeon Island, one of Sri Lanka's only marine national parks. The water is clear, the reef is healthy, and the conditions are forgiving. It's a better place to learn than most.

We run small groups — usually three to four students per instructor — so you'll get proper feedback rather than just being shepherded through a checklist. All our instructors are PADI certified and have been diving these waters for years.

Questions About Our Courses

How long does it take to get a PADI Open Water certification in Trincomalee?

The PADI Open Water course takes 3 to 4 days. This includes online theory (which you can start before you arrive), confined water sessions in a pool or shallow bay, and 4 open water dives. At the end you receive an internationally recognised certification.

Do I need any experience to start a diving course?

Not at all. Our Discover Scuba Diving experience is designed for complete beginners — you'll be guided into the water safely on the same day. For the full PADI Open Water certification, you just need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200 metres.

Are PADI certifications from DiveKing valid worldwide?

Yes. PADI certification is recognised by dive centres around the world. Whether you want to dive in Thailand, the Maldives, or the Red Sea after your trip to Sri Lanka, your card will be accepted.

What is the minimum age for diving courses?

PADI Junior Open Water certification is available from age 10. Full Open Water certification requires you to be 15 or older. Discover Scuba Diving is available from age 10 with parental consent.

Can I do my PADI e-learning before arriving in Trincomalee?

Yes — and we recommend it. Completing PADI e-learning before you arrive means you can skip the theory sessions on-site and spend more time in the water. We'll send you the access details once you book.
